Business Development Director, Consumer Products & Packaging

Location: Remote, United States (Candidate may reside anywhere in the U.S.)
Travel: Up to 30%

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Business Development Director to lead growth initiatives within the consumer products and packaging industry.

This is a high-impact leadership role for a commercially driven professional who excels at identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic relationships, and converting customer needs into profitable, long-term partnerships. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding market presence, and developing relationships with customers, partners, and key industry stakeholders.

Working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, the Business Development Director will help shape growth strategies, identify emerging market opportunities, and bring innovative product and packaging solutions to market.

Key Responsibilities

Drive Business Growth

  • Develop and execute strategic business development plans aligned with revenue and profitability objectives.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities across targeted consumer products and packaging markets.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline through strategic prospecting, networking, referrals, industry relationships, and participation in trade events.
  • Lead complex sales opportunities from initial engagement through solution development, negotiation, contract execution, and implementation.
  • Expand market presence and uncover opportunities for long-term revenue growth.

Build Strategic Customer Relationships

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary commercial contact for prospective and existing strategic customers.
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer goals, challenges, and market priorities.
  • Translate customer needs into innovative product and packaging solutions that deliver measurable value.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key decision-makers.

Shape Market Strategy

  • Monitor consumer products, packaging, manufacturing, sustainability, and technology trends to identify new growth opportunities.
  • Analyze customer needs, competitive activity, and market dynamics to inform strategic planning.
  • Identify opportunities arising from evolving consumer preferences, regulatory requirements, and industry trends.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, customer meetings, trade shows, and networking events.
  • Build and maintain a strong external network while enhancing the organization's reputation within the industry.

Collaborate Across the Organization

  • Partner with leaders across Product Development, Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Finance, and Supply Chain functions to develop customer solutions.
  • Bring customer insights and market intelligence into product development and commercialization decisions.
  • Coordinate customer requirements with operational teams to ensure successful implementation and execution.
  • Evaluate feasibility, timing, capacity, pricing, and profitability of new opportunities.
  • Support forecasting, demand planning, and capacity discussions as opportunities advance through the sales process.

Deliver Financial Results

  • Meet or exceed annual revenue, margin, profitability, and sales objectives.
  • Develop accurate sales forecasts and maintain visibility into pipeline health and opportunity progression.
  • Evaluate deal economics and support pricing strategies that balance customer value with long-term profitability.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Proven experience in business development, sales, account management, or commercial leadership within the consumer products, packaging, manufacturing, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated success developing new business and delivering measurable revenue growth.
  • Strong network of industry relationships within consumer products, packaging, retail, manufacturing, or related markets.
  • Experience selling complex solutions involving multiple stakeholders and long sales cycles.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with executive and C-suite decision-makers.
  • Strong commercial, financial, negotiation, and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to understand complex customer requirements and translate them into compelling business solutions.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, product development, operations, manufacturing, finance, and supply chain teams.
  • Strong understanding of market trends, competitive dynamics, and customer buying behavior.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 30% to support customers, business development activities, trade shows, industry conferences, and internal meetings.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Candidate may reside anywhere within the United States.
